SUPPORT PROGRESSIVE LEGISLATION

Progressive Legislation Project

Supporting Laws That Protect Rights, Fairness, and Democracy

Sherrilyn Ifill has become one of the country’s most respected voices for voting rights, civil liberties, equal justice, and the protection of democratic institutions. Through her legal work, public advocacy, and leadership in the civil rights movement, she has helped remind Americans that democracy is not something we inherit automatically – it is something we must actively defend.

At a time when many people feel disconnected from government and overwhelmed by political division, voices like Ifill’s show that laws still matter. Courts still matter. Public pressure still matters. Democracy depends on citizens who are informed, engaged, and willing to demand accountability from those in power.

Supporting Legislation That Helps Everyday People

Real change happens when good ideas become good laws. This project highlights progressive legislation that would expand opportunity, protect rights, reduce inequality, and strengthen democracy.

We spotlight bills that matter, explain why they matter, and show how ordinary people can help push lawmakers to act. Supporting legislation is not passive. It means understanding what is being proposed, discussing it within your community, and using your voice to demand meaningful action from elected officials.

At Democracy First Campaign, we are especially interested in legislation related to voting rights, economic fairness, healthcare, labor protections, civil liberties, anti-corruption reform, peace, and government accountability.

Some proposals will succeed. Others will fail. But democracy only works when citizens stay involved and informed.

This is not simply about politics. It is about building a country where laws serve ordinary people rather than concentrated wealth and power.

Democracy is not self-sustaining. It must be protected, strengthened, and renewed by each generation.
